Thank you for considering a gift to Literacy Volunteers - Mohawk/HudsonWhile we depend on the generous donation of time and experience by our tutors, we also encourage financial donations to keep our program operating. There are many ways to donate:
Outright GiftMake a quick and easy gift with a cash donation. Cash gifts offer a tax deduction for the full amount of the gift in the year it is made. Cash gifts may be made with US currency, check, MasterCard, Visa, or Discover. Matching GiftMany companies match charitable gifts made by their employees. Inquire with your Human Resources department for more information. StocksGifts of stock are tax deductible at full fair market value. A gift of appreciated stock generally offers a twofold tax saving. First, the donor avoids paying any capital gains tax on the increase in value of the stock. Second, you receive an income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock at the time the gift is made. Always check with your accountant or financial advisor before making a gift. BequestsName Literacy Volunteers - Mohawk/Hudson in your will. You may designate a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. Or you could name Literacy Volunteers as a remainder beneficiary to receive funds only after specific sums have been paid to individual beneficiaries. You can easily add us to your will through an amendment to your will. See your attorney or financial advisor for advice. Life InsuranceA gift of life insurance can provide a significant charitable deduction. To receive a deduction, designate Literacy Volunteers-Mohawk/Hudson as both the owner and beneficiary of the life insurance policy. Check with your insurance agent for details. Retirement PlanName Literacy Volunteers-Mohawk/Hudson as beneficiary of the remainder of the assets after your lifetime. This could avoid the twofold taxation on retirement plan assets. Real EstateDonate property to us, and avoid capital gains tax on the sale of a home or other real estate. Charitable Gift AnnuityEnter into a simple contract with us, in which you transfer assets to us in exchange for an annual premium paid by Literacy Volunteers-Mohawk/Hudson. This accomplishes two goals: providing a fixed payment for yourself, and making a gift to Literacy Volunteers. Charitable Remainder TrustTransfer money, securities or other assets to a trust that will pay you an income for life or for a period of years. The trust can also pay an income to another beneficiary of your choice. At the death of the surviving beneficiary, the remaining principle in the trust is paid to Literacy Volunteers-Mohawk/Hudson. Charitable Lead TrustCreate a trust that pays a fixed or variable income to us for a set term, and then passes to heirs. This is the most complex of charitable giving vehicles, but it does provide excellent tax benefits to the estate owner. It is essential that you arrange your planned giving with your financial planner and your attorney to ensure the best possible benefits to you and your heirs.
